Liam had learned the alphabet song in Shanghai. He knew some of the letters, but only when presented in order. He would sing the song in his head, then name the letter, often he was off by a letter because he'd counted wrong. Sooo, he's been working very hard and now knows the upper case, lower case and most sounds, in random order.
