Sand Castle Contest

Sadly we did not successfully defend our title as sandcastle champions on Saturday. We had a very busy summer with Liam's arrival and had little time to prepare and practice our plan. Liam didnt have the best time since he was unsure of what was going on. He was used to our castles at the beach, just digging in, but this was not like that. The winner wins $1000.00 for the local charity of their choice. We built for wellspring again this year. The one issue we had with the sand was the water content. As the day went on and the sun dried the outer layers, the inner layers were draining sand to the bottom of the sculpture. As hard as we tried to keep it neat and clean it was slowly crumbling. Granted it was a solid structure and I'm sure pretty heavy as well but the water seeping out from under it was surprising. The kids had a blast (well most of the kids) and we did win $100. for Wellspring.
