The older child

Adopting the older child is not for wimps. In our heads we know that these kids have histories, had a life, and were shaped by the events prior to joining our families. My head knows this, it really does.

Older kids come with baggage:

This is Liams.

We think this is "new" sons.

The thing about it is, the baggage multiplies, sometimes taking on a life of its own. In some of these bags there are demons, dark and vile.

Today, my boys opened those bags and set those demons on me.

My head knows they feel safe enough to do this. They know they are my sons and no matter how they hurt me, they will always be.

Still, it hurts.

Some of this baggage is just too heavy for these boys to lift, they need my help. But..some days those bags are too heavy, even for me.

Today was one of those days.
