The boys have had a long summer together, remembering Shanghai. The longer they are here the more comfortable they have become in sharing some of the horrific experiences they had at the hands of the people who were supposed to take care of them. From the outside, Shanghai Childrens home seems like a sanctuary. A gorgeous building, beautiful grounds....but inside....horrors.
I will spare you the details, but suffice it to say that these boys will be in heavy counseling for many years to come to deal with their post traumatic stress. It will take them some time to recover, if ever. What they have experienced, or witnessed....well...no person, let alone a child, should ever have to cope with. My heart breaks for them. It will take them some time to realize that our home is safe. That children are treasured, protected.. That adults will care for them, not harm them.
We have our work cut out for us.

This absolutely breaks my heart. I will send lots of good thoughts your family's way. I don't think those boys could have ended up in a better home.
ReplyDeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteJax to experienced things that should never have happened. Breaks my heart..and makes me VERY angry! No happy thoughts of his life in his chinese orphanage.
